Lost in the recent discussions both pro and con concerning the vaccine Gardasil which is currently being marketed by the company that makes it, Merck - those wonderful folks who brought us Vioxx and Fosomax, to name just two of their poisons - as a "cervical cancer vaccine," is the fact that Gardasil is not only totally unnecessary but something definitely to be avoided.
"Tell everyone!" is the rallying cry Merck is using to push this drug on unsuspecting girls as a way to prevent cervical cancer. But Gardasil is not, repeat, NOT, a cervical cancer vaccine. It will not protect against, prevent, or cure cervical cancer. What it will do is maybe, just maybe, provide immunity against a few of the strains of human pappilomavirus, or HPV, the virus that causes genital warts. There are more than thirty strains of the HPV virus and Gardasil, by Merck's own admission, protects against only FOUR of these strains. The fact is that more than three quarters of the adult population have had HPV at some time in their lives, and very few cases of genital warts actually manifest themselves as a result of HPV infection. Most genital warts go undetected and are harmless, although in women about a dozen types of them can lead to cervical dysplasia, a change in the cells of the cervix that might signal cancer.
The American Cancer Society offers better information about Gardasil than Merck, the company that manufactures it and coincidentally stands to profit in the billions of dollars by its compulsory use. The ACS has stated that most HPV infections resolve themselves without causing any pre-cancerous changes in the cervix (although long-term HPV infection can lead to cervical cancer.) However, there are many studies indicating that changes in the cervix caused by HPV can be treated, and cervical cancer prevented, without drugs. Genital warts are a sexually transmitted infection and can be avoided by using condoms, just as other STDs can be avoided by using condoms. A healthful diet consisting of balanced nutrients, particularly those found in cruciferous vegetables like cabbage, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, broccoli, or bok choy, is a much better defense against cervical dysplasia or even neoplasia, a more advanced cancer, than any "vaccine," and there are studies confirming this that Merck and the FDA conveniently ignore, dismiss, or categorically refute in order to instill fear in the populations most at risk for developing these cancers and make them believe this bogus vaccine will magically protect them. But the most telling point in all of these discussions is that HPV is easily detected and treated during regular gynecological exams and those injected with the vaccine still have to undergo such exams, rendering its use completely unnecessary!
Tell everyone. Merck is lying when it says Gardasil will prevent cervical cancer. What Gardasil will do is put billions of dollars' worth of profit into Merck's coffers at the expense of little girls' health. A cervical cancer vaccine? More like one of the biggest, most insidious health scams in the history of Big Pharma. Morality has nothing to do with it; it's a health issue, pure and simple, and one that can be easily addressed without injecting our daughters and sisters with a relatively untested and potentially dangerous drug. Ditch the Gardasil, use condoms, and have some broccoli instead. Tell everyone!
